Flip-flops are versatile sandal-type shoes, predominantly worn around the pool, on the beach, or during the summer months. Flip-flops are comfortable, waterproof, and inexpensive, featuring a Y-style toe thong that sits between the first and second toe.

Personalise your flip-flops with yarn bombing

You can customise your flip-flops quickly and cheaply using the latest craze of yarn bombing.

For a unique and customised set of flip-flops, all you will need is a pair of comfortable flip-flops; yarn in your chosen colourway, or multiple colours and threads are fine; scissors, and a yarn needle to finish. Follow these steps:

  1. Take your chosen yarn and secure it at the base of the strap on the right-hand side of the flip-flop. If you are using multiple colourways, secure all the threads in the same way.
  2. Work up toward the toe post and along the strap, wrapping your yarn and crossing your threads to make a stitch. Ensure the tails are tucked behind your stitches for a neat and finished appearance.
  3. After the toe-post, work downwards along the left-hand side.
  4. When you have finished, double-knot all pieces of yarn to secure them. Take a needle and thread the tails before passing them upwards through the completed stitches to hide them away. Finish by snipping any exposed thread with sharp scissors.

Yarn

Yarn bombing is the latest craze that sees everyday objects, such as flip-flops, covered in knitted or crochet designs. It is used to make a statement or add a fun and whimsical touch to an everyday object.

DK yarn, or double-knit yarn, is a great choice for crocheting, knitting, and yarn-bombing projects. It is highly versatile, comes in a range of colourways and finishes, and is easy to work with – even for complete beginners.
